one of the stations directly affected, king's cross, is my last stop for the library, and it is v. unsettling to see (on tv) people emerging from there so frightened. there are still people trapped underground there, but so far they're only reporting two fatalities from all of the sites. terrible still, but the emergency services here have gotten everything under control v. quickly, and that is heartening.
i sort of had a clue something was up when my tube station to get home from the gym was closed. they didn't give any info, so i thought, 'oh, typical massive delays on the Tube' and walked 20 min. home feeling slightly frustrated. then, of course, i got in around ten a.m. and heard there were blasts in at least 6 places. my friend cara says they've never shut down the whole Tube system before, not even in the 80s when IRA bomb attacks were going on.
where we live, highgate, is not really central. we're north london, so we're more or less removed from the areas affected. however, some of the attacks were on the northern line, so i'm sure our tube service will be down for a while.
v. sad and terrifying. and right on the heels of the olympics joy. as i said, tho', the emergency services were right on top of it--they've been practicing in earnest since the madrid bombings.
one little detail that made me feel better--my new pals cara and shani texted me right away to make sure i was ok, knowing i go to the library nearly every weekday. and the messages of concern from
i have some frivolous posts coming up...just to let you know...hope i don't have much more hard news to report...

I had to call up my sister and brother-in-law-to-be (who was going to be flying back to London today), in California, to see that he accounts for all of his loved ones.

Glad you're okay!
Hey Noel,I heard the news this morning, but just got a chance to look up your account and was very happy to see that you'd made your post about being safe and sound. I also got a chance to catch up with everything else that's been going on with you. It all sounds very fun and exciting, so good for you!
What's this I hear about you being an auntie soon? Is that little addition going to be from one of Dan's brother's wives or your sister? At any rate, congratulations. It's great fun being an aunt, you know, spoiling them, and then handing them back to their parents.
I'm still doing the catering/banquet work. It's slow right now b/c it's the off season, but I did have fun figuring out that in June, I worked 12 days doing catering work and brought in as much $$ as working a full 40 hour work week at our old place. Yes, it was very fun indeed to figurue out that little math problem.
Keep in touch and take care.
xo,
Sarah

Re: Glad you're okay!
Hey again,Oops -- I meant to say that I made as much money in 12 days as I made in an entire month at our old place (not just one week, as I'd written above).
Okay, carry on about your business...
Sarah
